Weekend Recap, Daylight Savings & Jacket Hunt

I had the nicest weekend. It has been a long time since I've been able to just do stuff I enjoy and not worry about time too much. Ah, thanks to the help of daylight savings. Though it wasn't ALL fun and no work...that isn't possible ;P I did go to the library on both days. On Saturday, Lis and I were troubled. You mean lost? No, just err...troubled.

Unfortunately, with daylight savings come less sunlight. I'm a summer obsessed freak. :D I hate busing home when the sky is all dark...but for some reason, it's kinda thrilling leaving the house at 7a.m. while the sky is all dark. But 'tis dangerous, I know. Stats show that most kidnappers/rapists target victims early in the morning. I'll be extra careful.

My AI prof (for cpsc322) posted her journal on the cs website. Even though I disliked her before because she always seemed so confused, after reading her site...you can't help but think she's just human. And besides, it's kinda amusing when you read her comments on the class :O)

Jacket searching is narrowing down. I never knew how much work it was to find a jacket! I must've been to 4-5 sports stores. The HH store at the village had absolutely NOTHING. Quite disappointed as I went to school 1.5hrs earlier just to check the place out. If I'm lucky, I should be able to find one tomorrow. (I've already hunted down the location with the jacket model and size I want) One thing I notice about me...if I want something bad enough, I let it consume me. Now why can't I be that passionate about school?

Hm, dumb question :)

Farewell Midterm Madness

My hell week is finally over. Over! I don't think I've ever had a week like this week. I had three midterms, one report/presentation and one cpsc assignment. Luckily, Anh was suffering along with me so I wasn't alone. :P We stayed at Rick's lab almost everyday after class and yesterday, I was at UBC until around 11p.m.

But now, my friends...it's all over! No more midterms! (until next Thursday) I love Fridays. I just love it so much. Finally, I am going to get some sleep.

As a treat, I'm going to a Prescriptives Event tomorrow. I've never been to one before so I don't know what they do. Hope it'll be fun :) After that, it's back to hitting the books.

I'm also on the search for a winter jacket. I've been looking around and I think I like the Helly Hansen ones the most. They have the best jackets in terms of durability, design, windproof, waterproof and most of all, they're the warmnest. And conveniently, there's a Helly Hansen outlet at UBC Village! Never striked me as an outlet since their signs always read: Sale! Only $299. Hopefully I can find something good and not too pricy. Being asian and short has its advantages...and it's called the children's section ;P

After 3 weeks of sitting in front of my desk day after day, I feel really icky. That's it. This week, I'm going for a run or at least go biking. Anyways, have a good weekend everyone! We all deserve one.

Wen's 20th Bday

After many hours of studying at the library, Angel and I headed over to Wendy's house for her bday party. I think out of all parties, I love home parties the most. We played the traditional "hot hot sushi" game...while we incorporated german and punjabi accents?! It was real fun to say the least =P The gals got a chance to chit-chat and I don't know, I felt a little funny. Not sure if anyone else felt it too, but there were some weird silences (maybe a break from laughing too hard)...and the convos were a bit questionable, if you know what I mean. It's not something I would write in here anyways. I had fun regardless :)

But of course, here are the pics!

The gals!

I must've taken a dozen pictures similar to this one. Everytime Angel laughed, I took a picture =P

The beautiful birfday girl!

The three stooges (or something like that)

Stress & Friendster

I'm under quite a bit of stress at the moment. In the next 2 weeks, I have in total 4 midterms, 2 looong assignments and 1 huge presentation and report due. Feeling a bit overhelmed, or maybe a lot. I haven't had so much to do since high school. Remember those days when you had like an test every 2 days?

And of all the things I can do to cope with the stress, I end up joining things like Friendster.com to distract me. Bad move. I should've remembered my low level of will-power. But I will stop the insanity (is this a line from some weight losing regime?). Regulate, regulate, moderate, moderate, prioritize, prioritize.

I will listen to myself, yes. And if you're bored, click below to join Friendster:

Okay, I'm going, I'm going :P

Midterms Left and Right

I guess all post-secondary kids go through this...it's midterm crunch time again! Ah, the most anticipated time of the year. I had one last week, one today and three more next week. The one today for Psyc367 went relatively well, I think. The study group really was a great idea...who knew, eh? =P I think teaching/learning from others is probably one of the best methods for absorbing information because we (as in people around our own age) have a better idea on how to convey information to each other. Well of course, getting off topic can be a problem. But we all need a little of that, right?

I finally set up a daily schedule for myself. About time! It really helps me to regulate my work/play time and that's something that I definitely need. Otherwise, I find myself spending a little too much time online.

Looks like zee boss hired 5 new people to cover the night shifts for WebCT support. They look friendly. Finally, we're no longer the newbies!

Yesterday for Thanksgiving, Michelle and I went biking around Bobolink park. When we reached there, we noticed the playground was absolute deserted. On a sunny day, too! When we were nearing there, I saw a dog-like figure roaming around. I could not believe my eyes. It was a coyote! It was quite small in size, with the bushy tail and sharp ears. I quickly hurried Michelle away and we fled from the scene. Coyotes at 2 in the afternoon. Wow. Not something you see everyday. That reminds me, I saw an owl at UBC last week. It was at around the late afternoon as well. Wonder why these usually nocturnal animals come out so early to play? Weird.

Recap of past 2 weeks

031011: Thanksgiving
Happy Early Thanksgiving to all the Canadians! For thanksgiving this year, my friend organized a small get together at an all-you-can eat Chinese Hot Pot in Richmond. It was so nice to see everyone again. I haven't seen some of the people since early Summer. Felt a bit like being back in high school again. Sort of. From splashing water on Eugene's glasses and Alice's tea to playing Boxing with Lis, I had an awesome time.

I said that I would put some pictures up before I sleep so here they are. I really want to get the mysql working soon so I can have comments on my page, but it doesn't seem to be cooperating with me. Ah well, when I have time I guess. =P

Timing played a crucial role in this picture. As I took the picture, Eugene tried to block it by putting a plate in front of the camera. I was one step ahead which resulted in Nancy having a steamy beard of some sort =P

Girrrrls! Rawr.

I don't know what we were thinking, really. At the time, it seemed like the right thing to do =P

This is fat. Really!

That's about it. Hope you enjoyed the pics :)

031004: RANDOM (anniversary, clubbing, midterm)
Yesterday, Johnny and I celebrated our 45 months anniversary :) One of our fav activities is eating so that's exactly what we did! We had dinner with his family and we had the tastiest crab ever (ahh, the joys of his dad being a great chef). Afterwards, we went to Richmond with the intent to go siu yea but we weren't hungry until midnight so we had to find something to do for 3.5hrs. We basically just went around to whatever that was open: Landsdown, Superstore, Save on Foods, etc. At Neptune Chinese restaurant (it's on Ackroyd Road in Richmond), we had a HUGE dish of chilled spicy shrimp! It was soooo good. We know when food is good when we don't talk and just eat. =P It was a really nice anniversary. It was simple, but it was perfect.

My co-worker, Wilson, was complaining how his friends all hang out at lounges and were no longer interested in clubbing since they were too old for it. He says he feels right at home at clubs. I said there are some pretty sleazy guys at clubs. He replies, "I see them too. I just look at the mirror and think, damn! There he is!"

Had my first midterm for third year. I think it went alright. I was pretty prepared but I don't know how I did. It was an essay/long answer format; just how I like it to be. Err, that's about all I wanted to say really.

031001: RANDOM (wedding, psyc367, cousin)
Manual updates aren't actually that bad! But I still prefer having comments on my page. I prefer a page to be more interactive.
Maybe I'll get a chance to set up MoveableType by this weekend. One of my co-workers is getting married this week...and of all places, he's getting married in Edmonton! The weird thing is neither him nor the bride is from Edmonton...but maybe there's some special reason or something =P

For Psyc367, instead of the usual boring lectures, we're actually creating our own experiment which is uber fun. I'm working with 7 other people and luckily we got to choose our own groups! I'm working with Tahira, Melissa, Clarissa (this new girl I met who sits beside me) and 3 other people that later decided to join our group. It turns out that one of the girls is actually Connie's (from high school) cousin. They look really similar too. And unfortunately they are alike as well =P (half kidding!)
Speaking of cousins, I found my cousin's Xanga page. Surprise surprise she owns a xanga, heh.

It's October! So it's UPASS time. I wonder how long these cardies will last before they're all bend and broken. =P

030929: SANITY
Sometimes I think blogging helps me with my sanity, but in reality, it probably is just my excuse to get away from the books for awhile. The pressure is starting to kill. Got my first midterm this week and I've been at the library both Sat/Sun studying for it. It's dandy and all, but what I really hate is focusing on one course and slowly falling behind in others. And then once the midterm's over, I got to do some massive catching up.
I need to get off the computer...I need to get off the computer.... If you see me on ICQ, please kick me off. Okay? Okay. (12:39a.m.)

030926: I AM HERE!

Well I have been one busy girl! (You might’ve noticed from the lack of updates). Or maybe that’s nothing new ;P I haven’t even had time to set up greymatter…so right now, it’s just manual updates. Eep!

What do I have to say, life has been incredibly hectic, yet amazingly wonderful. Things are just going really well right now. I am taking a lot of interesting classes, except my stupid CPSC322 Artificial Intelligence class along with its uninformative prof and uninformative $180 textbook. I love my job. Sometimes I can’t believe how I was able to get such a great job. The co-workers are just fun to be with and we share the same eccentric sense of humour.

Some things have been on my mind lately. People change. I don’t like changes. But what can I do, just accept it. Change is natural anyways. Just don’t compromise your integrity.

Here are some Whistler pics from the CSSS Whistler Retreat two weekends ago!
