The APSC (applied science) co-op website was down a few days ago and I was joking to Johnny about how I always get people calling me at work (itservices) about these kind of problems. If anyone is curious, ITServices provides support for Interchange, myUBC, wireless, resnet, webCT, netinfo, ladeeda, but websites such as www.apsc.ubc.ca is controlled by the APSC department and we have no control over what they do. Okay, after writing that out, I realize that most people probably DO NOT know what ITServices do and just link anything technical with them.
So anyway, lo and behold, I get a call from a woman asking me about the apsc co-op website. I explained to her the above and also suggested she contact the person who runs the apsc co-op website (I even found the phone number for her). It was weird because I felt like she thought I was behind this or something or that I was purposely hiding the website (for my own good?) because she kept on emphasizing, "Why this website broken? Very important I get this website. Students need jobs and they not have much time." She must have told me that 2-3 times. It took awhile to calm her down, especially since her english isn't too good.
As our conversation progressed, I found out that she was the MOTHER of an engineering student.
...
Okay, that's a little too worrysome? I'm sure the son can handle it. I don't know how he would feel if he found out his mother called ITServices.
Just thought that was a bit amusing and a little unsettling at the same time.

I decided to post a pic of the birthday card from Vic & Bern (sorry if i'm talking about it too much but it's such a cool card! :P And I found the perfect spot to put it!)
![]()
Everything about it was perfect. The perfect weather. The perfect place. The perfect food. The perfect nucks game. The perfect company.
Wow, who's lucky huh? :P
I wanted a small, intimate party with my closest friends this year (this is set up to be an apology for the friends I didn't invite...I'm sorry guys!) Each year, I like to do something different and unique for my bday and for this year, we had a blast from the past theme! (or as Yvo puts it, an attack of the nerds referring to how we looked in grade 8) I just want to thank you every one who dressed up...from club monaco sweaters, to XXL sized sweaters, to 4 pairs of very, very round glasses that touched our noses, to boxer shorts to retainer - you guys have been great sports!! And to those who didn't, thank you for coming anyway!!
Here are some pictures!

Here's Nat w/ her fung jouw

Here's Lis and my gr.8 glasses. Those glasses were so in!

Group shot of us standing outside Flamingo Chinese Restaurant. Such a pretty day isn't it? It was raining all last week but today was just sunny and beautiful!

Afterwards, the gang headed over to my house for some mah jong fun and we also had a Saved By The Bell Marathon!

Check out the roundness of those babies!

Here are the boys playing with a LOTR Gimli toy.

And here are the girls playing with a topless doll. Perverts I tell you! Especially that Nat who took like 4 pictures of this.

Here's me holding Bern & Vic's card! It was the most creative card ever! When I was reading it, my ears were beat red possibly b/c some of the pics were so embarrassing (they found pictures of me in old annuals and placed them in scenes such as SBTB, Jun Ching and Full House, etc) and also cause I was just so honoured you guys spent so much time and thought into making it. :O) Also, Lisa wants to add that they've been doing it for 5 hrs straight.

Besides undressing dolls, the girls took a lot of weird pictures together. Take this very messed up pyramid for example. Nat kept going "oww!" while Jules was saying, "this is nothing!" See, what do I tell you? Size doesn't say anything about strength :P

After the party came to a close, I spent the evening with my family eating dinner at ShaBuSen. My makeup was done courtesy of the girls!
Here's what I had on:
Eyes -
MAC High Fibre Indigo Mascara (Jules)
MAC eyeshadow in Goldmine in crease and fold (Lisa)
Lips -
Lips lined with Mary Kay pencil in Chocolate (Nat)
Topped with BabyPink Rasberry Lipgloss (Jen)
Cheeks -
BE True powder blush (myself)
* The namesthe item is the person who applied it for me.
Thanks for making my 21st birthday so memorable and perfect, everyone :O)
So while Johnny and I were busing home today, we were busy dreaming of A&W chubby chicken, but besides that, we did talk:
J: I'll walk you home before going to hockey, okay?
V: It's okay, hockey starts at 4:30 right?
J: Hm, you can come over, I can drive you home and I can pick up your present on the way, they said that it should be ready today.
V: (who can catch any sign and hint KNEW what her present will be) I know what you got me!!
J: (frowned w/ a 'damn I'm busted look')
V: Well it wasn't too hard to guess! You did say when it was ready so that means it has to be made...
J: (frowned...looks really disappointed since he wanted to surprise me)
V: I don't really know, I can guess but I'm not sure!!
J: (frowned)
V: It's okay hun, you can surprise me another time. And again, I really am not positive what it is.
J: (frowned) I EVEN ORDERED THE PURPLE DINASAUR!
V: You did!?!? Btw, it was lime green! And that wasn't even what I had in mind! You shouldn't have told me!
--------
The background story? When I was 4, my parents told me I could have any present I want (I was a little spoiled or something like that) so I looked around the store and spotted this lime green dinasoar in a blue plastic basket wrapped up nicely in a package. Inside contains copious amounts of candy and yums. "I want that one!", I said happily. My mom kinda looked at me funny and said, "Are you sure?" I think it was real cheap and she wanted me to get something more expensive (sounds weird, doesn't it?) But I said nope, that's the one I like! I liked it so much that when I got home, I even took PICTURES alone with my dinasoar in a basket. When I look back at the pictures, I had the biggest smile on my face ever. It was one of my favourite gifts of all time :D
-------
Now back to the bus...
V: Aww! That's so sweet! I can't believe you ordered a stuffed dinasoar for me! *pause* Is there candy in there too!????
J: (still looks a little disappointed) I want to give you the present today okay? Let's talk about something else? (weak smile)
V: Okee.
So Johnny decides to change plans to go to richmond to pick up the present instead of going for hockey. He told me to wait outside in the car while he runs in to pick it up. We pulled to the parking lot in Richmond Centre and he told me to stay put and that when he calls, close my eyes.
(5 minutes later...cell phone rings)
J: Okay, unlock the doors and close your eyes!
V: (unlocks doors and closes eyes)
J: (opens the car door and sits down. I hear some plastic ruffling and he says, "open your eyes now!"
V: (so I open my eyes and see a grey shopping bag...thought to myself...that's a pretty tiny dinasoar. And then I realize, it wasn't a dinasoar at all!!! It was this:

A 1996 Sir James Douglas Elementary School Graduation hoodie!!
I was absolutely speechless. It was just the most beautiful and thoughtful thing ever. I have always, always, always wanted one. Douglas never had graduation hoodies. It has been eight years since I have graduated from elementary school BUT NOW I FINALLY HAVE ONE!!!
He said that I looked really surprised and shocked. And yea, he definitely fooled me. I was really expecting a dinasoar! The nerve of that boy :P But I just want to say how incredibly sweet this is and how absolutely thoughtful he is. He went through so much trouble searching online for embroidering places, phoning them up to see if they can do the service and you want to know how he got the back logo? He took his old sweatshirt and photocopied it! And then he whited-out all the dots and photocopied it until it was all white. Then he went around to different places that has that service. I just want to say that I have THE most amazing boyfriend in the world. And yea, I know it :P (smirk)
Edit: If anyone's interested, here's me with the dinasoar. (gotta love them bowl cuts!)

Michelle: gah jea, can I borrow your cellphone?
Vivian: sure, it's in my jacket pocket.
m: there's a problem.
v: what's the problem?
m: well it's a love kinda problem
v: (trying to hide from smiling too much...all the while, Michelle was being VERY serious)
m: there's this new boy in school...his name is Abe (or Abel) and today, Grace, McKayla and I were playing with him at lunch time. He was on McKayla's team all the time. McKayla thinks that he likes her so I'm going to call Grace and McKayla to see if there's a way we can find out if he does.
v: ...Uh hmm (smiling thinking how absolutely cute this was and wonders where she gets this stuff?? :P)
The CSSS Bzzr Garden this year turned out to be a huge success. It seems like everyone was enjoying a refreshing plastic cup of $2 (good deal, good deal!) beer and watching or playing a competitive game of foos. Everyone else in between was chatting and then, of course, we had those two provocative guys - not girls - dancing on stage shaking their bon bons to the music. Ah, this is what you get when you go to a 85% guys party.
Anyway, here are my fav pics from the night:

We've reached the BIG 5-0!
So I betcha all want to know what we did eh? ;P *wink wink nudge nudge* We had dinner at his house and watch the game. Duuh! And we're going for Sushi on Fri! Can't wait. :D
Johnny says that 95% of my happiness comes from food and 5% is from him :P I don't know where he gets these ideas!
Talked to my advisor today and I realize a couple of things about my proposed 4th year schedule. Looks like I will have to add in some extra courses. I'll have to knock off those fun Linguistics courses I planned for next term.
COGS 400 will be separated into COGS 401 and 402. 401 will be more theory based while 402 is experimental and design. They are also introducing a new course for next year, COGS 300 which include programming in PROLOG (as if I do not love prolog enough...) and legometrics (building simple robots with legos!) Though he told me I am grandfathered into the program, I don't have to take COGS300 but I think it will be beneficial. But I know they mark superhard. (partly because COGS is so subjective) So what's more important? The grades or the knowledge?
I also realized that to minor in Neuropsych, I need 18 credits of 300 level and above PSYC courses labelled 60 and above in the last 2 digits. What that mouthful means is that I am missing one course. Haven't decided which one yet, but my point is, 4th year will be a little tougher than I expected. It looks like both terms will contain ONLY science courses which can really drive you nuts at times. Okay, maybe more so than sometimes. But they're my kind of science courses. So it should be OK, right?
Anyway, I better go back to writing my short essay on "What is it like to be a bat" for my PHIL451 course. Of all my courses, this one is the most challenging. Especially when your class is chocked full of philosophy majors who would love to tell you how it feels like to be a bat...but anyway. Back to the essay.
